MEGABASS MAKIPPA FFS

A Finesse Blade Jig Built for Forward-Facing Sonar

Forward-facing sonar has changed modern bass fishing dramatically.

Instead of casting toward visible cover and waiting for a bass to find the lure, anglers can now locate an individual fish, watch how it responds and adjust the lure’s depth, speed and action in real time.

The new MEGABASS MAKIPPA FFS was designed specifically for this highly technical style of fishing.

According to Megabass, the MAKIPPA FFS was created in response to strong requests from Brandon Palaniuk and other members of the Megabass USA pro staff.

This is an important part of the story behind the lure.

It is not simply a smaller version of an existing blade jig. It was developed as a competition-oriented finesse bait for targeting bass with forward-facing sonar.

The objective is clear: reach the fish quickly, show it a compact and natural-looking target and create a reaction when other presentations fail.

Based on the Proven MAKIPPA Design

The original MAKIPPA was introduced as an easy-to-use casting blade jig. Its basic concept was simple: cast it out and retrieve it.

Its compact metal body casts well, sinks efficiently and produces flash and vibration through a rotating blade.

The MAKIPPA FFS uses this proven concept as its foundation, but adapts it specifically for bass fishing with forward-facing sonar.

The body is compact and slim, helping the lure reach the intended depth quickly. This is especially important when a suspended bass is moving and the angler has only a short opportunity to place a lure in front of it.

Megabass Blade Hook System

One of the most distinctive features of the MAKIPPA series is Megabass’ original Blade Hook System.

With many blade baits, fish may attack the flashing blade rather than the body of the lure. The MAKIPPA’s system positions the hook together with the blade, helping convert those blade-directed strikes into hookups without preventing the blade from rotating.

This feature becomes particularly important with FFS fishing.

The angler may watch a bass approach the lure, hesitate and finally strike at the last moment. A system designed to catch short or blade-focused bites can make a major difference when every opportunity counts.

More Than a Cast-and-Retrieve Lure

The MAKIPPA FFS can be retrieved steadily while maintaining the intended depth, but that is only one way to use it.

When watching the lure and fish on sonar, the angler can add small twitches, rod-tip shakes or deliberate changes in retrieve speed.

A subtle shake creates additional flashes without requiring the lure to travel a long distance. This allows the bait to remain close to a reluctant fish while continuing to produce visual stimulation.

When retrieved faster, the blade rotates rapidly and produces stronger flash and vibration. This can imitate a small baitfish attempting to escape and trigger a reaction bite from a bass that ignored slower or more natural presentations.

The ability to switch immediately between subtle movement and an aggressive fleeing action is one of the MAKIPPA FFS’s greatest strengths.

Compact Size, Strong Presence

FFS fishing often requires a difficult balance.

A large lure may attract attention but can also make pressured bass suspicious. A very small lure may look natural, but it can be difficult for the fish to notice from a distance.

The MAKIPPA FFS combines a bite-sized body with the additional flash and vibration of a rotating blade.

The body remains compact, while the blade gives the lure a much stronger presence in the water. This makes it suitable for pressured fish, suspended fish and bass feeding on small baitfish.
