Big soft swimbaits often need a little creativity when it comes to hook placement.

When using an extended stinger hook, you want the treble hook to stay in exactly the right position on the bait. But you also don't want to push the hook itself deeply into the soft plastic or create unnecessary damage to an expensive swimbait.

DECOY has a very simple Japanese solution for this problem.

DECOY Hook Peg L-14

The DECOY Hook Peg L-14 is a small rigging accessory designed to secure an extended hook system to a soft plastic bait.

The idea is extremely simple.

Run a wire from the front eye or main hook of the swimbait, position your treble hook where you want it, and use the Hook Peg to secure the wire to the body of the bait.

Simply push the Hook Peg into the soft plastic.

Its small barb holds the wire securely against the bait, allowing you to control the position of your stinger hook without using the treble hook itself to hold the rig in place.

It Releases After Hook-Up

This is the clever part.

The Hook Peg is designed to hold the rig in position while fishing, but after a fish is hooked, the peg can pull free from the soft plastic.

The fish can then fight on the hook and wire system without the entire load being applied directly to the swimbait.

This can help reduce unnecessary tearing and damage to the soft plastic during the fight — especially useful when fishing large or expensive soft swimbaits.

Simple, Small and Useful

There is no complicated mechanism.

It's just a tiny piece of rigging hardware.

But if you regularly fish large soft swimbaits with extended treble hooks, it solves a very specific problem in a remarkably simple way.

Secure the wire.

Keep the hook where you want it.

And after hook-up, let the rig separate from the bait.
