Big Bass Fishing in Lake Biwa’s Hokko Area

Today’s topic is a little different from our usual lure explanation.
This time, I would like to talk about Lake Biwa bass fishing, which is already famous among many anglers outside Japan.
Lake Biwa is the largest lake in Japan. It is also a natural ancient lake with a very long history.
The most popular area among anglers is the southern part of the lake, called “Nanko” in Japan. Nanko is relatively shallow, around 4 meters deep in many areas, and it is famous for its thick weed beds.
However, today’s report is not from Nanko.
This time, I would like to introduce fishing in the northern part of Lake Biwa, called “Hokko.”

Hokko is a completely different world. Some areas are more than 100 meters deep, and the water is extremely clear. Because of this clear water, it is not easy to fool bass with artificial lures.
But the bass from Hokko are very beautiful, powerful, and special.

We received an exciting report from Lake Biwa guide Kouki Yogo, who guides anglers in the Hokko area.
According to Kouki, this is an exciting style of fishing where the average fish can be around 2 kg, and the biggest fish can reach up to 5 kg.

For big baits, the key is to retrieve the lure very tight to the structure.
For heavy down-shot rigs, the key is sharp vertical rod work to trigger reaction bites.
This is not easy fishing, but it is very exciting. In Hokko, one bite can be a true giant.
