Surprise Sugipen

Surprise’s Sugi Pen is a pencil bait developed for offshore surface誘い出し and casting to feeding frenzies, allowing anglers to target not only surface-feeding fish but also fish holding below the surface. After casting, the sinking model is counted down to the desired depth and retrieved primarily with a steady retrieve, adding light jerks as conditions require. It can also be used to entice fish from below the surface when they will not fully rise to the top, and changing the countdown allows anglers to search from the surface down to the bottom.

The lineup includes the standard 110mm, 32g sinking model, the 110mm, 42g sinking heavy model, the approximately 125mm, 60g heavy sinking model, and the 145mm, 55g sinking model. Version 2 of the 130mm sinking model includes a white-eye model without an internal weight, which excels at walking the dog from the surface to just below the surface and free-fall presentations, and a blue-eye weighted model, which excels at head-shaking action below the surface and subsurface retrieves. Floating models include 130mm and 160mm sizes, and can be used for short dives that take advantage of the buoyancy of their wooden bodies. Suitable hook sizes vary by model; as a guideline, the 110mm sinking model takes Treble SPXH #2 to #1, while the 130mm Sinking Version 2 takes Treble SPMH #2 or SPXH #2 to #1.
