BlueBlue’s ARVIN 60S is a slim sinking pencil developed for slowly working distant shallow areas near the surface. Its casting distance and ability to rise in the water, inherited from the original ARVIN 150S, have been scaled down for light-game plugging, resulting in a 60 mm, 6.5 g lure. Its slim silhouette makes it difficult for fish to detect as artificial, while producing a subtle presentation reminiscent of a weakened baitfish or baitfish rising toward the surface.
The fixed-weight, low-center-of-gravity design, combined with the flat-sided, flat-bottom body shape, ensures a stable swimming posture. On a steady retrieve, it swims with a weak, restrained roll and subtle flashing, rising rapidly to just below the surface when the retrieve begins after splashdown. At the surface, it creates a V-shaped wake resembling an I-shaped wake, while just below the surface it attracts fish with a finesse roll. During the fall, it exhibits a shimmying fall with a slight backslide, making it easy to adjust the depth when targeting changes in shallow structure or offshore submerged cover.
The basic technique is to hold the rod high and retrieve slowly at a constant speed. A shaking retrieve, performed while gently moving the rod tip, produces an underwater dog-walk action, while adding twitches creates a flashing action with side-to-side head movement.
