DAMIKI JAPAN’s Tokkon Jig BACK DROP is a slow-type metal jig developed for slow jigging in nearshore waters. With minimal forward movement, it turns sideways and produces an enticing action that presents the jig to fish before they strike. Rather than simply working the reel or rod slowly, it is designed to attract targets with short-distance movements.
The center keel extending from its distinctive head shape, together with the slit divided by the keel, grips the water and creates a structure that transitions the jig into a sideways position. The keel height, slit depth, center-of-gravity balance, and fall speed have all been comprehensively tuned to produce lateral slides and changes in posture during the fall. In addition to retrieving the jig to entice fish, it can also be used to trigger strikes on the drop. By turning its direction of travel sideways with minimal movement, it is well suited to repeatedly probing the same water layer or a narrow depth range.
The basic technique is to move the jig with rod jerks or reel operation, then let it fall. When dropped from a horizontal position, the jig produces a fluttering fall. When allowed to free-fall from a tail-down position, it displays a long backslide, gliding backward.
