SHIMANO’s OCEA WING FALL is a metal jig designed to expand the possibilities of fall-based fishing. Combining a teardrop shape with a flat-sided body, it is intended for a wide range of targets, including rockfish and pelagic species, with an emphasis on thoroughly probing areas near the bottom.
The wide body maintains a horizontal posture while rolling broadly during the fall, creating an emphatic fluttering action and flash to attract fish. The thin head is shaped to reduce the pulling resistance that can easily occur with a wide body, making the jig easy to control across a range of depths, including mid-to-deep water. Its slightly rearward center of gravity is also designed to help send the jig down to the bottom, even in areas with strong current. During the fall, it travels only a short distance upward before quickly turning on its side and producing a large action.
The basic technique is to lift the jig with a jerk and then let it fall. Because it generates rolling and flash during the fall without requiring the angler to keep imparting subtle movements, anglers can search around the bottom while varying the fall time. The weight range extends from 80 g to 500 g, and the JV-F16T is the 160 g model.
