Shimano Wing Beam 80HS

Shimano’s Wing Beam 80HS is a surf lure designed to combine the casting distance of a sinking pencil with the wide wobbling action of a minnow. To address the weak swimming action and difficulty controlling the depth that are common challenges with conventional sinking pencils, it features a “Wing Head” design in which the wings on the head section catch the water. Even during slow retrieves, the design helps prevent the body from falling over, generating a wide wobbling action while making it easier to maintain the lure’s depth. Its flat body produces flashes, while its relatively large action for a sinking pencil makes it easy to feel and monitor the lure’s movement during operation.

In addition to its rearward center of gravity, the wings act like tail fins during flight to stabilize the lure’s posture, while the raised tail shape cuts through the air to contribute to long-distance casting. According to the manufacturer’s measurements, it is 80 mm in length, weighs 35 g, and has a casting distance of 97.7 m. When retrieved at a steady speed, it produces a wobbling-and-rolling action generated by the Wing Head; it can also be worked with a slow retrieve to search while maintaining the desired depth. For added strength, it features an internal through-wire construction with one size #4 hook and one size #4 ring at both the front and rear. Color options include models featuring Scale Boost.
