The SHIMANO OCEA ROCKET DIVE 187F XAR-C is an offshore floating diving pencil developed with an emphasis on long-distance casting performance. Its design makes it easier to deliver the lure to feeding frenzies and wide areas, and since its introduction in 2015, its casting distance has been highlighted as a key feature in casting games. With its large 187 mm body, it can be selected and tuned for targeting amberjack and tuna.

In addition to a stable diving action that plunges the lure beneath the surface, it produces a sharp S-curve rolling action while drawing in bubbles. When targeting amberjack, replacing the hooks with lighter models such as ST-66 #2/0 and working the lure with high-speed jerks enables an enticing presentation that combines diving and rolling actions. By contrast, with the standard ST-66 #3/0-class hooks, its buoyancy setting allows it to remain underwater longer after diving, making it suitable for slower retrieves that let the lure stay visible before inducing a bite, such as when targeting tuna. Because hook weight affects the action and the way the lure rises, hook tuning can be used to adapt the lure to the target species and retrieve speed.
