YAMARIA’s CHOVY SF125 is a shallow runner developed for targeting Japanese sea bass and hirazuzuki (blackfin sea bass) from rocky shorelines. It is designed to make baitfish drift naturally through foamy whitewater, encouraging strikes. Its easy-to-control action just below the surface, near-horizontal swimming posture, and buoyancy close to suspending create the presence of a flashing anchovy-like baitfish wavering in the whitewater.
Its action is centered on a seductive, tight rolling motion, with a design that helps maintain its action even in the pull of receding waves. It is typically retrieved slowly to trace the area just below the surface, but it can also be used by stopping the retrieve and allowing waves or wind to carry it, creating a natural drift in the current. In calm, windless conditions, short jerks can produce side-to-side darts to entice fish. In seawater, it is slow floating, taking approximately 5–10 seconds to rise about 50 cm. This makes it easy to maintain the desired depth while limiting its upward movement. In brackish or freshwater, changes in buoyancy may cause it to become slow sinking. It measures 125 mm in length and weighs 20 g, and comes equipped with size 6 thick-wire treble hooks and size 3 split rings. Replacing the hooks with fine-wire models makes it more floating-oriented, while using hooks one size larger makes it more slow-sinking-oriented. However, hooks that are too small may reduce hookup performance, so caution is advised.
