BASSDAY’s SUGAPEN is a floating pencil bait designed to expand your topwater presentation options by allowing you to switch between a surface dog-walk action and diving. Its slim body reduces air resistance, while the internal MZ-19 weight-transfer system shifts the weight toward the rear during the cast to create a stable flight attitude, despite its lightweight pencil-bait design. After landing, it remains buoyant and can be worked with a side-to-side dog-walk across the surface, tight head-shaking with minimal forward movement, splash-producing action, or diving just below the surface by lowering the rod tip, depending on rod manipulation and retrieve speed.

Working it with short, quick inputs while keeping the line from becoming overly tight makes it easy to produce a tight head-shaking action on the surface, while slightly stronger rod inputs create an enticing combination of surface action and diving. It can also be paused and left floating, or retrieved steadily to create a wake. Available in 58F, 70F, 95F, and 120F sizes, the 95F measures 95 mm, weighs 8.5 g, and is equipped with #6 hooks and #3 split rings. With models suited to different conditions and bait sizes, it is designed for easy handling in surface-oriented saltwater fishing, including shallow areas in harbors and rivers.
