Daiwa Hotaruna

DAIWA’s Hotaruna is a sinking minnow designed to replicate the movement of prey drifting underwater with limited swimming ability, such as firefly squid. Its compact 70 mm body features a magnetic weight-transfer system that shifts the weight toward the rear during casting, making it easy to cast for its size. After landing, it readily maintains a stable swimming posture and can be worked while holding a consistent depth.

The lineup includes the sinking Hotaruna 70S and the slower-sinking Hotaruna 70SS. The 70S is easy to bring into the desired depth with a standard retrieve and is easy to control even in conditions affected by current or wind. The 70SS has a reduced sink rate and is suited to allowing the lure to drift from the surface through shallow depths. The basic technique is to let the lure sink to the desired depth after casting, then retrieve it slowly. It can also be used for low-speed drifting or presented while carried by the current. This model makes it easy to reproduce the weak swimming action of baitfish during night fishing, including techniques based on the firefly squid pattern.
