Daiwa Saltiga 73 Chopper

DAIWA’s SALTIGA 73 CHOPPER is a metal jig for baitcasting jigging, developed under the supervision of Kazunari Shimizu. Although it features a semi-long design, it is engineered to reduce the fall speed and make it easier to maintain the target depth. With a front-to-rear weight distribution of 7:3, the jig shifts into an almost horizontal posture when paused after a jerk, then falls diagonally by utilizing line tension.

The body cross-section features an unconventional diamond shape that combines sharp-edged flat surfaces with rounded surfaces. By adjusting how each water-contacting surface functions, the jig flashes diagonally during the fall, creating an action reminiscent of dying baitfish. It responds quickly to jerks even with minimal line slack, while the semi-long shape limits the slide distance, allowing anglers to focus on a fall-based presentation when fish are difficult to trigger with standard actions. The 150 g model measures 157 mm in length, is made of lead, and is compatible with twin or single short assist hooks in sizes #1/0 to #4/0. It also features large weight markings for easy identification onboard, along with the series’ signature eye design.
