DAIWA’s SAMURAI JIG R is a metal jig based on the proven SAMURAI JIG, with revisions to improve stability during flight, reduce tangling during operation, and optimize the hook setup. The weight balance between the head and belly has been adjusted to position the center of gravity slightly toward the rear, creating a design that is less likely to lose balance during casting. The head has been made thinner while retaining thickness around the lip, helping maintain water resistance while reducing tail wrapping. The shortened body also helps minimize hook tangles while providing a responsive feel during operation.

The standard setup combines a tinsel-style SAKUSAS assist hook on the front with a heavy-wire treble hook on the rear, with hook sizes varying by model. The basic technique is to work the jig upward with one-pitch jerks after it reaches the bottom, then let it fall, while also accommodating changes in jerk speed. Since it produces action during a steady retrieve, it can also be worked primarily with a retrieve when fish are less responsive to jerking. The slow-fall SAMURAI JIG R SF features a flat body with one side given a slight concave curve, designed to create water resistance and subtle vibrations during the fall. It is available in weights such as 20 g, 30 g, and 40 g, allowing you to choose according to the target depth, current strength, and tackle being used.
