Daiwa Samurai Jig

DAIWA’s SAMURAI JIG R is a metal jig developed to help anglers win in fiercely competitive shore-jigging waters, with improved casting distance, controllability, and resistance to hook tangles. Compared with the original SAMURAI JIG, its center-of-gravity balance has been modified, shifting the weight distribution of the head and belly slightly toward the rear. This design helps the jig maintain its posture during flight, making it easier to achieve stable casts even in headwinds and crosswinds. The head has been made thinner while retaining thickness around the lip, providing an appropriate level of water resistance to reduce tailing, where the line tangles around the hook.

Underwater, it responds to both high-pitch and slow-pitch jerks, while optimized weight balance and water resistance expand the range of possible actions. The basic technique is to retrieve the jig with a one-pitch jerk after it reaches the bottom—one turn of the reel handle for each rod jerk—then allow it to fall. The jig also accommodates variations such as changing the jerk speed according to the fish’s response or enticing fish with a steady retrieve. The front is equipped with a fluorocarbon-coated Saqsas hook assist hook with tinsel, with its shortened length designed to provide quick hook penetration and reduce tangles. The rear features a thick-wire treble hook capable of handling the powerful runs of large fish. Standard weights are available in 20g, 30g, 40g, and 60g.
