SMITH’s CO-VIECHOO is a soft bait designed for bottom fishing with a free rig, based on the habits of black sea bream and yellowfin sea bream. Made from a relatively firm material, it is designed to help minimize damage from the fish’s teeth and withstand repeated bites. The body features a two-step narrowed profile designed to accommodate the hook securely, helping prevent the bait from slipping during a bite. The ribs on the body are designed with a thickness and spacing that allow them to move subtly even when the bait is stationary.

The arms feature a compact curly design that displaces plenty of water, while the tail is sized to help reduce short strikes. It produces a stable action along the bottom for black sea bream, which favor consistent movement. It is primarily used on a free rig with an offset hook; a size #1 hook with the point exposed is suitable, and it can also be paired with a CO-VIE hook. Depending on the conditions, the arms can be trimmed, or the head can be shortened before use. Pair it with a tungsten sinker of approximately 1/4 oz (7 g) or 3/8 oz (10.5 g), maintain bottom contact, and retrieve it with a steady dragging motion. Around cover, it can also be used with a tight shake or a stop-and-go retrieve in which the bait is pulled with the rod and then retrieved with the reel.
