SMITH’s PANISH 120F-SW is a floating minnow designed for saltwater use, refined from the long-selling trout minnow “PANISH” to produce different actions through steady retrieves and rod manipulation. It features a 120 mm, 20.5 g body equipped with a weight-transfer system and fitted with #3 hooks.
On a steady retrieve, it swims with a roll-dominant, high-pitch action. Even when the retrieve speed is increased, the action is designed to become faster in pitch without significantly widening its stroke. It performs across a wide range of speeds, from slow to fast, and is suitable for probing a consistent depth. With rod action, it changes into a panic (darting) action that makes wide lateral movements. Even light twitches that snap the line slack with the rod tip can produce irregular slides.
Its diving range in saltwater is set at approximately 100 cm, making it suitable for a variety of locations, including surf zones, rivers, and rocky shores or seawalls with high footing. The basic approach is to adjust the steady-retrieve speed according to changes in current and wave conditions, while combining twitches and jerks when targeting specific spots. This model allows anglers to switch between a bite-inducing action that takes advantage of PANISH’s original roll-dominant swimming motion and darting movements created through rod manipulation.
