SMITH’s GUNSHIP 45 is a compact minnow plug developed for saltwater light-game fishing, primarily targeting rockfish, with a body shape inspired by juvenile squid and a design focused on fishing the surface layer. It is an upsized model designed to reach spots that are difficult to target with the 36 mm model. The 45 mm body is equipped with an internal high-specific-gravity tungsten weight, providing excellent casting performance for its size. Other distinctive features include an offset lip that brings the tentacles together, a large eye, and a fat profile designed to create a realistic baitfish impression.

The fixed-weight, low-center-of-gravity design enhances recovery and consistency of movement, producing a highly responsive action that performs from ultra-slow to high-speed retrieves. Its action is a sharp, wide wobble-and-roll, while the light pull resistance makes it easy to feel the body’s movement. After casting, it can be used with drift or slow retrieves as the basic approach, and also responds to techniques that include stops and pauses during the retrieve to let the lure rise. The floating 45F weighs 4.0 g, while the slow-sinking 45SS weighs 4.3 g, allowing anglers to choose between them depending on whether the wind and waves are light and fish are holding near the surface, or a slightly deeper range is the focus. The 45HF is a 3.5 g high-floating model designed for rapid rising and attraction created by surface ripples. All models come standard with Mebaru Hook #12.
