SMITH’s GUNSHIP is a small minnow plug designed for saltwater light-game fishing, primarily targeting rockfish, with a juvenile squid-inspired profile. Featuring a shallow-running, near-surface design, the lineup includes the 36F (floating) and 36SS (slow-sinking). The body has a slightly fat profile, while the offset lip reminiscent of squid tentacles and large squid-inspired eyes give it a realistic baitfish appearance.
The internal weight uses high-density tungsten to provide excellent casting distance despite its compact size. A fixed-weight, low-center-of-gravity configuration enhances recovery and action consistency, delivering a highly responsive action that performs from ultra-slow to high-speed retrieves. Its action is a sharp, wide wobble-and-roll, and the light pulling resistance makes it easy to feel the lure’s movement. To enhance the texture of the clear color patterns, the inside of the body has been kept clean, and scale patterns on the sides of the body have intentionally been omitted.
Basic techniques include drifting the lure with the current after casting and slow retrieves. It can also be used with stops and pauses during the retrieve to create a pause for fish to strike as the lure rises. Use the 36F when wind and waves are light and fish are holding near the surface, and switch to the 36SS when wind and waves develop and the fish move slightly deeper. The 36F measures 36 mm, weighs 2.3 g, and is floating, while the 36SS measures 36 mm, weighs 2.5 g, and is slow-sinking. Both models are equipped with size #14 standard hooks.
