Jackson Mijinko

Jackson’s Mijinko is a compact sinking plug designed based on the observation that horse mackerel readily respond to falling lures, with its fall speed determined through testing to match their preference. Available in two models, 1.8 g and 2.5 g, both measure 22 mm in length and are tuned to achieve the same fall speed despite their different weights. Unlike plugs for rockfish that are primarily retrieved, the Mijinko is designed for targeting horse mackerel with the fall as its central action.

Outside the morning and evening bite windows, the basic technique is to twitch the lure two or three times, then wait with the line tight. If there is no response, repeat the same sequence while working the lure back toward shore. You can also search different depths to locate the layer holding horse mackerel. When the current is moving, let the lure drift with the flow, occasionally adding light twitches while feeding it out without allowing slack in the line. The 1.8 g model combines a 22 mm body with a sinking design and original assist hook, making it well suited to light-game fishing with ajiing tackle and plugs.
