Jackson Pin Tail

Jackson’s Pintail is a sinking lure designed to induce reaction bites by covering a set depth range with a horizontal retrieve, based on the habits and feeding behavior of Japanese Spanish mackerel (sagoshi and sawara). The Sagoshi Tune uses a configuration based on Jackson’s accumulated design expertise in heavy-weight minnows, automatically producing an irregular flat-sided action within a regular wobbling action during fast retrieves. Its three-sided, flat-sided body generates strong flashing as it moves, allowing anglers to target sagoshi with horizontal movement, which is considered more effective for them than vertical movement. Through-wire construction is also used to enhance strength in the event of body breakage.

The basic technique is to cast the lure, let it sink to the target depth, and retrieve it at a constant speed. The Sagoshi Tune is available in 75 mm/20 g and 90 mm/28 g sizes, while the Sawara Tune is available in 105 mm/35 g and 120 mm/42 g sizes. While inheriting the action characteristics of the Sagoshi Tune, the Sawara Tune has been redesigned to produce an automatic flat-sided action rather than simply being a larger version. The standard hooks are #8 for the 20 g Sagoshi Tune, #5 for the 28 g model, #4 for the 35 g Sawara Tune, and #2 for the 42 g model, allowing anglers to choose according to the lure size and target fish size.
