Ecogear Aji Shokunin

ECOGEAR’s AJI SHOKUNIN is a series of straight worms designed to detect subtle bites when ajing. The slightly flattened body creates the sliding action that horse mackerel favor on the fall, while the ribs on the body and tail produce subtle vibrations reminiscent of baitfish. The tail is designed to be extremely slender, allowing it to bend flexibly when a horse mackerel inhales the bait so that it is easily drawn into the mouth. In addition, the worms are infused with flavor and scent, appealing not only to the fish’s vision and lateral-line senses, but also to its sense of smell and taste.

The core AJI MUST lineup includes 1.6-inch, 1.8-inch Fat, 2-inch, and 2.4-inch models. The 1.6-inch model uses its compact profile and excellent action response for fast-paced searching in high-activity conditions, as well as for daytime fishing and targeting smaller horse mackerel. The 1.8-inch Fat model emphasizes a balance of action response, visual bulk, moderate water resistance, and ease of inhalation. The 2-inch model is an easy-to-use standard size for the series and is well suited as the centerpiece of a rotation based on fish activity, available bait, and current flow. The 2.4-inch model’s long profile makes it easier to slow the fall, allowing for slow presentations that let the bait drift during low-activity conditions. When rigging on a jig head or similar terminal tackle, the basic approach is to take advantage of the slim body by threading the hook straight through it.
