AMS Design’s Qoop 45 is a topwater plug that combines the functions of a pencil bait and a popper in a single body, designed for fish responding near the surface. It creates different surface sounds with the cup’s popping noise and the subdued rattling sound produced by its ball weight. Considering that small topwater plugs in the 30 mm class can easily lose their action, it is designed at 45 mm to achieve a good balance of operability and ease of being eaten by fish. It measures 45 mm in length, weighs 3 g, is a topwater-type lure, runs at a range of 0 cm, and features a dog-walk action.

The body has a slim, pencil-bait-style shape, while its rear-weighted balance reduces air resistance during casting and is designed to achieve a stable flight posture. A ball weight with room to move is built into the rear of the body, producing a subtle, low-pitched rattle sound distinct from the sound made when popping. A glow ball is built into the belly, making the lure easier to see even on rocky shores without lighting from nearby street lamps. The basic technique is to add popping or dog-walking action with the rod, then pause to create a moment for the fish to take the lure. It can also be retrieved steadily to create a wake. The strength and tempo of the popping action, as well as the length of pauses, can be adjusted according to the type of baitfish and fish activity. The standard hooks are size #12, and the rings are size #1.
