Jackson’s Bottom Magic is a sinking minnow designed for bottom fishing in saltwater. It applies the distinctive body shape and action originally developed for trout to saltwater use. Centered around a bottom-oriented, feeding-inspired straight-line action and a soft darting action, it is designed to remain upright and resist falling over when it reaches the bottom, allowing you to search the bottom with the hooks facing upward. The 55 mm model weighs 5.6 g and is equipped with heavy-wire #8 double hooks for saltwater use.
After casting, let the lure sink to the bottom, then work it with a basic combination of a digitized retrieve or a bottom-dragging retrieve while maintaining contact with the bottom. Short jerks can be added to produce a darting action. Rather than simply tracing the bottom at a constant speed, rod movements during the retrieve can change the lure’s action from a straight-line bottom action to sharp darting movements. The combination of its upright posture on the bottom and double hooks helps reduce snags, making it easy to efficiently search shallow areas and uneven bottoms.
