OWNER’s Cultiva Bottom Shot is a jig head developed primarily for targeting rockfish such as scorpionfish and greenling by slowly dragging it along the bottom and working it over obstacles. The head features a mildly luminous finish designed to maintain its glow for extended periods. Its low center of gravity and distinctive nose shape make it suitable for working uneven bottoms such as cobble beds and rocky areas. The basic technique is to rig it with a soft bait, let it sink to the bottom, and slowly retrieve it with rod movements or the reel while keeping the head from lifting too far off the bottom.
The JH-80 is available in weights of 3.5 g, 5 g, 7 g, 9 g, and 12 g. Hook sizes are #6 for the 3.5 g and 5 g models, #4 for the 7 g model, and #2 for the 9 g and 12 g models. Lightweight models are easy to choose for shallow water or areas with gentle current, while heavier models are suited to deeper bottoms and greater depths, allowing you to adjust your setup to the water depth and current at the fishing spot. When probing the bottom, it is well suited to a steady retrieve that takes advantage of the head’s low-center-of-gravity design; when the head contacts an obstacle, avoid continuing to reel forcefully and instead use a light rod movement to guide it over.
