SMITH’s SARDINE RUN is a saltwater pencil bait designed to replicate the erratic movement of fleeing sardines both on and below the surface. The lineup includes the floating 13F and slow-sinking 13SS, offering presentations for targeting surface-oriented fish from estuaries to rocky shorelines.
The 13F features a slightly angled floating posture and high buoyancy, making it easy to create an action that clings to the water’s surface. With short rod-tip twitches, it produces a dog-walk action with limited forward movement and side-to-side head swings. With slightly longer-stroke jerks, it becomes a diving pencil that dives and moves irregularly from side to side, while long jerks make it transition into a wide wobbling action after diving. It measures 130 mm, weighs 25 g, and comes equipped with Cultiva ST-56 #2 hooks.
The 13SS is a slow-sinking model that maintains a horizontal posture as it sinks, making it suitable for rough weather, high waves, and presentations beneath whitewater. It is also easy to use as a follow-up after searching with the floating model, with jerking as its basic technique. Varying the stroke and retrieve speed changes the balance between wobbling and sliding actions.
