SHIMANO’s OCEA SARDINE BALL FLASH BOOST is a sinking pencil designed for large fish feeding on sardine bait balls. Based on feedback from the field, its body size and slow-sinking buoyancy setting have been fine-tuned. Its slow fall prevents it from sinking too quickly, making it easier to send the lure around or beneath the bait ball, while maintaining enough body volume to keep its silhouette visible to tuna.

Inside the body, FLASH BOOST features a mirror plate suspended on a spring that vibrates to produce flashes. Even when the lure is paused during a drift or falling, the plate continues to reflect light with subtle movements. JETBOOST supports the shifting weight with a through shaft and spring, providing both a stable flight posture and a quick start to the retrieve, while also supporting casts toward bait balls. In addition, SCALE BOOST reproduces the scale pattern of baitfish to create complex reflections.

The basic technique is to cast near the bait ball and let the lure sink with a free fall or curved fall. If there is no response, retrieve it slowly to make it swim with a fluttering action. It can also be worked with a retrieve-and-pause or lift-and-fall technique. The 150S measures 150 mm and weighs 71 g, making it the model for anglers who prioritize body size and silhouette. The 130S measures 130 mm and weighs 77 g. Although downsized, it uses the same size 2/0 hooks as the 150S, making it easier to match smaller sardines. The standard hook setup is two #2/0 hooks on both the 150S and 130S, while the split ring specifications vary by model.
