Daysprout Prime Bait

Daysprout’s Prime Bait was developed as a “dead bait” lure designed to float on the surface and entice trout when baitfish move into shallow areas as water temperatures rise in spring. Designed especially with trout feeding on schools of smelt in mind, it creates a pause for the fish to strike while remaining motionless on calm water, allowing you to target the surface with a baitfish-inspired presentation.

With its finely tuned buoyancy, the lure drifts in the wind while its body gently sways to attract fish. The basic technique is to leave it motionless on the surface, but it can also be worked with subtle shakes while floating. Available in both natural and attractor colors, it makes it easy to imitate a baitfish floating on the surface. When trout are focused on the surface, alternating between stillness and shaking enables an innovative match-the-hatch presentation suited to those brief prime-time feeding windows.
