Keystone Hayafuku-gata Jado-hen

Keystone Inc.’s Hayafuku-type “Jado” series is a bait-wrapping squid jig developed to target winter spear squid and Japanese flying squid—species traditionally pursued from boats—from shore-based locations such as breakwaters. It combines the maneuverability of an egi with the scent, flavor, and texture of natural bait. The lineup includes the V0, designed for shallow water and areas with gentle current; the V1, easy to use on standard breakwaters and tetrapod sections; the V2, suited to somewhat deeper water and areas with current; and the V3, which sinks quickly in strong current, deep water, and strong wind. For size 3.5, the weights are set at 15 g for the V0, 16 g for the V1, 19 g for the V2, and 27 g for the V3.

When using the jig, place bait such as Japanese anchovy, chicken tenderloin, or strips of horse mackerel or mackerel along the body, then securely fasten both ends of the bait with wire. The design supports covering a wide area with sharp rod lifts while minimizing bait slippage, as well as combining a fall or bottom stay according to conditions. The V0 has a slow sink rate, allowing a slow fall and longer time in the strike zone. The recommended tackle setup consists of an eging rod approximately 7–9 ft long, a small spinning reel in the 2000–3000 size range, PE line rated 0.4–1.0, and a fluorocarbon leader rated 1.5–3.0.
