Buddy Works’ HILACK is designed to let anglers switch between the long casting distance, slow-retrieve performance, easy rise, and baitfish-like silhouette characteristic of sinking pencils according to the conditions. While keeping the body length consistent at 98 mm, it is available in three weights: 24 g, 30 g, and 35 g. Changing the weight does not significantly alter the silhouette, allowing rotation according to the depth, wind and wave conditions, and required retrieve speed. Casting performance is also enhanced by the rear-weighted design. According to the official information, the average casting distance is 85–90 m for the 24 g model, 90–95 m for the 30 g model, and over 100 m for the 35 g model.

The 24 g model is intended for slowly probing ultra-shallow water and is tuned for an easy, slow retrieve just beneath the surface. The 30 g model is the standard version, designed for easy straight retrieves through a range approximately 70 cm below the surface in areas around 1.5–2 m deep. The 35 g model grabs the water more effectively in deeper areas and windy or rough conditions, and it also handles jerking techniques. This is the only model with a rearward center of gravity positioned closer to a 4:6 center balance, and it performs a backslide fall with the tail lowered. The hooks are OWNER Cultiva ST-46 treble hooks: #5 on the 24 g model and #4 on the 30 g and 35 g models. The split rings are also set to the specified sizes for each model.
