K-Flat Gummy

K-FLAT’s Gummy is a metal jig designed to transition from the pause after a jerk into a fall that mimics fleeing bait, enticing amberjack and yellowtail to strike. Its defining feature is an edge formed along one side of the body. When it catches the current, the jig moves with a hovering, horizontal posture. It also features a distinctive round eye. When the jig is stopped during a jerk or retrieve, the split ring slides laterally within the eye. The tension on the leader created by the current, together with the water flow generated by the edge along the side of the jig, allows it to stay horizontally positioned before sliding down head-first.

The basic technique is to keep the jerk amplitude short while feeling the resistance of the current, drawing the jig closer with the rod while retrieving line with the reel. Load the jig by bending the rod, then add a retrieve to generate water movement. In tough conditions, it can also be used with a “drift and fall” presentation, transitioning from a drift that lets the jig hover around the bottom into a fall. Available in weights from 90g to 310g, the Gummy 200g is an easy-to-use weight for offshore jigging in deep water and areas with strong currents.
