DAIWA’s TD SALT PENCIL is a saltwater pencil bait designed to create a natural presence for fish focused on the surface, featuring a realistic body that resembles a baitfish. The 9F is a floating model that readily produces a lively dog-walking action from its distinctive floating posture, while a steady retrieve creates a wake-like surface disturbance.

The body has a slim minnow profile and features a Water Through Gill design that draws water in through the mouth and releases it through the gill area. In addition to the side-to-side dog-walking action created by rod manipulation, the cup-shaped face produces splashes and popping sounds when it catches water. The basic technique is to move the rod tip in short, quick motions while taking up slack line, allowing the lure to glide across the surface at a steady rhythm. When fish are less responsive, shorter inputs can limit the lure’s travel distance, while the intensity of the action can be adjusted to match fish activity and wind-driven waves. The series also includes variants with different buoyancy and weight balance, allowing anglers to select models according to range and action, including the slow-sinking 7SS and the long-casting, rough-weather 11LD-F.
