Nishine Lure Works Saugeen

Nishine Lure Works’ Saugeen 40 is a lipless lure developed to bring a lifelike swimming action to an extremely small, slim-bodied lure that would be difficult to swim with a front lip, making it move like a real baitfish. It features NLW’s original Tail Drive System, which uses the tail as the source of motion to swim the body. Measuring 40 mm in length and weighing 3.1 g, it is a sinking model with a sink rate of approximately 50 cm per second.

With the standard blade attached, the Tail Drive System and belly blade create the action, covering slow to medium retrieve speeds. As the blade contacts the body, it produces a knocking sound, and the lure swims with a cadence similar to a sinking pencil. It is well suited to situations that call for a deliberate presentation with a shake retrieve or slow, steady retrieve. Removing the blade makes the lure easier to use at high speeds and changes the action to a tight, subtle vibration resembling a baitfish wagging its tail, with the lure maintaining a nearly horizontal posture. Since it becomes an almost completely silent presentation, the bladeless configuration is suited to situations where it is difficult to get a response with the blade attached, as well as techniques that use speed to trigger bites. The standard hook is an Ichikawa Kamakiri Light #12, the standard snap is a #00+, and an original blade is included.
