Heddon Torpedo

Heddon’s TORPEDO is a topwater plug designed as a swisher, with a streamlined, aerodynamic body shape, balanced design, and weight optimized for long-distance casting and accuracy. The rear propeller churns the surface, creating a flashy, splash-producing action with short, irregular retrieves. It is easy to work with a fleeing-baitfish presentation, and its key feature is the ability to attract fish through momentary surface disturbances created by the propeller rather than continuous ripples and sound.

The basic technique is to use short jerks with small rod twitches, moving the lure several times before pausing. It can also be retrieved slowly at a steady speed to search the water while creating a surface wake similar to that of a buzzbait. In areas with current, it can be worked across the surface, while in still water it can be fished around cover with limited forward movement; the retrieve tempo can be adjusted to suit the situation. The size lineup includes the Magnum Torpedo, Baby Torpedo, Tiny Torpedo, and Teeny Torpedo. The Tiny Torpedo measures 1-7/8 inches, weighs 1/4 ounce, and is fitted with #6 hooks, while the Teeny Torpedo measures 1-1/2 inches, weighs 1/8 ounce, and is fitted with #10 hooks. From standard to compact sizes, anglers can choose the model best suited to the surface conditions and tackle being used.
