Berkley’s DEX Shading Crank is a flat-sided crankbait designed to combine the slender silhouette of a shad with the appeal of a traditional crankbait. The SC55F features a 55 mm, 7 g body with a taller profile than a typical shad. Its flat sides catch the water, producing a fluttering action that combines sharp wobbling and rolling, while flashes from the body attract bass. Designed for a wide range of conditions, from muddy water to clear water, this model has a maximum diving depth of approximately 1.4 m.
It is primarily used with a steady retrieve and can also be paused temporarily as needed while maintaining contact with the bottom or structure. An official field report also introduces a worming method in which a weight seal is attached to the lip to sink the lure to the bottom, followed by repeated twitches and pauses with the lure held upright. The coffin-shaped lip makes it easy to work the lure along structure, and it is well suited to pausing after contact to create a momentary pause. Smaller and lighter than the SC63F, the SC55F is a model that can be selected for use in colder water or highly pressured conditions.
