SMITH’s SINK SPIDER is a sinking insect bait designed to descend straight to the target position while maintaining a horizontal posture. Intended for situations requiring precise presentations, such as sight fishing, its fall resists sliding laterally or forward and backward, allowing anglers to target vertical structure—such as sheer rock faces and isolated pilings—tightly.
The body uses high-specific-gravity salt-in material, allowing the bait to sink on its own without a nail sinker. Its 12 tapered legs, arranged in multiple directions, minimize interference with the fall caused by surface tension while generating subtle vibrations in response to changes in line tension during the fall or when worked on a dropshot rig. The orientation of the legs and the flow of water passing between them create a streamlining effect, giving the bait a self-leveling function that helps the body maintain a horizontal posture. Its cross-section is a near-perfect oval, while the rear-weighted profile also improves ease of handling when casting.
A slit on the back makes it easy to rig with an offset hook; for the 2.2-inch model, offset hooks in sizes #2–3 are recommended. In addition to fishing unweighted along the shoreline, it can be used for dangle fishing and dropshotting.
