JACKALL’s PIKUPIKU is a topwater plug developed to recreate with a hard bait the stationary surface shaking action perfected with soft baits. With subtle rod shakes, it rolls and writhes on the surface like a struggling baitfish while minimizing forward movement, generating ripples reminiscent of a weakened minnow. Even when continuously shaken, it is resistant to drifting forward or from side to side, making it suitable for keeping the lure in the same spot and enticing fish around pinpoint targets such as the edges of cover and vertical structures like pilings.
The gently curved body is designed to roll from side to side with a rhythmic, rocking motion. By testing the relationships among the body shape, weight balance, and line-eye position, rotation and posture instability during casting are also minimized. The balance between the internal weight and hook size has been tuned so that part of the back protrudes above the surface, allowing the lure to be used as is right out of the package. The uniquely shaped line eye minimizes pivot-point movement when the line is tied to the apex of its diamond-like eye, enabling a stable stationary action controlled by the rod. The lineup includes the PIKUPIKU 65 and PIKUPIKU 78: the 65 measures 65 mm, weighs 3.0 g, and is equipped with ST26TN #12 hooks, while the 78 measures 78 mm, weighs 4.9 g, and is equipped with RB-M #8 hooks on the front and #10 on the rear. The basic retrieve is to gently shake the rod to make the lure shake on the surface, and UL- to L-power spinning tackle is recommended.
