Shimano Bantam Comac Surface

Shimano’s Bantam CoMac Surface is a surface-focused crankbait designed to target the water’s surface and just below it. Based on the cover-avoidance performance inherited from the Macbeth, it is designed for targeting shallow areas with cover, such as beneath overhanging vegetation and around laydowns extending close to the surface.

In addition to the crankbait action generated by the lip and body, the blade at the rear of the body rotates to produce fine ripples. Combined with the sound of the internal rattle, it generates a combination of strong action, a surface wake, rattling sound, and blade vibration. The semi-round lip is suited not only to cover such as wood, but also to areas with vegetation, including aquatic plants and water shield. It is a floating model with a running depth of 0–30 cm.

The compact 50 mm, 13 g body is fitted with one oversized treble hook toward the front. This setup is designed to reduce the disadvantage of using small hooks on compact crankbaits, helping minimize hook-outs during the fight and the lure coming apart. In addition to the basic technique of retrieving it at a constant speed just below the surface, it is also suited to tracing along cover and around vegetation.
