OSP HP Bug

OSP HP Bug is a 1.5-inch finesse insect bait developed primarily for casting to spots likely to hold bass and enticing them naturally, even under high-pressure conditions. While its appearance suggests an insect, it is designed for a wide range of applications, centered around lightweight rigs. Despite its compact body, it is easy to cast, with careful attention given to hooking performance, rig versatility, and stability during the fall.

The body features a square shape that helps maintain a stable falling posture, with a salt-free material used on the back and salt-infused material on the belly. The arms and legs catch water to stabilize the bait’s posture as it falls, while the entire leg section produces fine vibrations when rigged weightless on an offset hook. The stabilizer at the rear of the body suppresses backward tipping when fished weightless, as well as rotation during the cast. It also reduces deviation from the tracking line when retrieved with a steady I-shaped action or twitched weightless.

The basic setup is weightless with an offset hook, allowing the bait to sink naturally with slack left in the line and be left motionless without adding action. When sight fishing, it can be cast ahead of an approaching bass to let the fish discover the lure. When rigged neko-style with an offset hook, it can be hung on a branch so that it touches the surface, attracting fish with the resulting ripples. A weightless setup with an octopus hook is suited to a stable I-shaped action, while Carolina and split-shot rigs are designed to keep the hook point facing upward, helping reduce snags. For probing deeper water, it can also be used on a drop-shot rig, allowing the bait to attract fish as it falls through the length of the leader.
