IMAKATSU’s Viral 70 is a double propbait specialized for shrimp patterns, developed to replicate the unguarded swimming motion of grass shrimp and oriental river prawns. Based on a 70 mm, 5.6 g slow-sinking model, it features a distinctive body shape designed to imitate the shrimp’s abdomen and tail, along with silicone rubber whiskers. The whiskers not only create a shrimp-like silhouette, but also help suppress a head-up posture during swimming and falling, keeping the lure in a horizontal position.
The front and rear feathered hooks are designed to resemble a shrimp’s pleopods, and the buoyancy of the feathers also contributes to maintaining a stable horizontal posture. Weight is positioned internally with a low center of gravity in mind, delivering stable swimming action despite the lure’s unique shape. The custom props feature clover-shaped holes and produce metallic friction sounds reminiscent of crustaceans—“chirichiri” and “sharashara”—as they rotate. The props continue spinning even during a dead-slow retrieve, while the slow-sinking model displays an I-shaped action that drifts through a consistent depth. In the floating model, the humped shrimp-like abdomen pushes water, creating a V-shaped wake and a noisy spiral action.
The basic retrieve is as slow and steady as possible. It is well suited for running the lure along the edges of structure such as seawalls, reeds, pilings, tetrapods, standing timber, and debris piles. If replacing only one of the feathered hooks with a standard hook, the front hook is intended to be replaced in consideration of its effect on the falling posture.
