Arbogast Jitter Bug

Arbogast’s Jitterbug is a topwater plug introduced in 1937 that creates a loud sound and pronounced movement on the surface. Its double-cupped lip at the front of the body is set at a precise angle to catch water during the retrieve, producing a rhythmic “plopping” sound and an action that disturbs the surface. Even when simply retrieved at a steady speed, it moves forward with a side-to-side wobble, making it suitable not only for night fishing but also for daytime topwater presentations.

The standard Jitterbug is available in multiple sizes, including 3/8 oz and 5/8 oz, with hook sizes varying according to the lure size. The Jointed Jitterbug is a variant featuring a segmented body that adds tail swing, characterized by the responsive movement created by the joint and the flash produced by the moving hooks. A slow retrieve maintains its rhythmic plopping action, while a faster presentation can intensify the surface disturbance. The standard Jitterbug is also available in a clicker version, allowing anglers to choose between models based on the difference in sound.
