Nate's Bait Float Core

Nate’s Baits’ 12" Float Core is an insert component designed to make the 12" Line Through Trout soft bait fishable near the surface, or to reduce its sink rate when used with ballast. When installing the Float Core in the soft bait for surface presentations, the manufacturer recommends pairing it with a size 3/0 treble hook. Recommended examples include the Owner ST36 and Mustad 35647 Round Bend. To stabilize the bait at the surface, weight adjustment with a nail sinker may be necessary depending on the presentation.

Adding a counterweight with ballast also allows the bait to be configured for a reduced sink rate when used in a bottom-hook, line-through setup. For weedless applications, it is designed to be paired with a weighted hook, with the manufacturer listing the BKK Titan Diver 18/0 as an example. The Float Core is not intended solely for suspending the bait; by adjusting the weight of the hook and ballast, anglers can fine-tune the buoyancy balance to target the desired depth from the surface to the bottom.
