Teckel’s HONKER is a frog lure featuring symmetrical twin blades inspired by the legs of frogs and waterfowl. The blades rotate in opposite directions, creating unique water displacement and a metallic sound on the surface. As they churn the water, the blades make irregular contact with each other during retrieves, producing a metallic clatter. Combining this blade mechanism with a 7 cm, 15 g body, the HONKER is designed to deliver an appeal unlike that of conventional frog lures.
The basic retrieve is a steady retrieve like a buzzbait, with the lure moving across the surface accompanied by blade flash and metallic sounds. Once you get the hang of manipulating it, the lure can also be made to walk from side to side. During a stop-and-go retrieve, the blades sway gently to attract fish on the surface. On floating mats such as water shield, it can also be worked with a stationary shake. A strong jerk produces sound and splashes like a prop bait. When thoroughly searching a promising area, it can be retrieved with longer strokes while keeping the body from breaking through the surface, then varied with stops and jerks. Even during pauses, the blades continue to sway as they droop behind, keeping the lure attractive after the retrieve has stopped. In situations where wind pulls on the PE line and makes the lure difficult to control, the resistance of the blades acts like an anchor, making slow presentations easier.
