Bottomup Kunnery

Bottomup’s Kunnery 3.6-inch was developed to address the challenge faced by stick baits that “won’t wiggle when they’re short and thick.” While combining a compact 3.6-inch body with a weight of 8 g or more, it pursues a self-generated action that produces a wide, side-to-side wobble during the fall. It combines the castability of a fat body with lifelike movement on the fall, and works with a wide range of rigs in addition to being used weightless.

Its slightly flattened sides and low-center-of-gravity shape, with a bulging belly, stabilize its falling posture. Most of the body features ribs to provide sufficient weight, while the central flex area uses a ring-shaped design. The tapered neck, which serves as the pivot point for the action, balances rebound and flexibility, converting water pressure during the fall into a pronounced wiggle. As the fat body pushes water, it also creates water displacement and attraction despite having no appendages. The material’s hardness and salt content have been adjusted to suit the action, and it contains shrimp, squid, and fish powders.

In addition to weightless rigs, it is compatible with free rigs, leaderless drop-shot rigs, and weight-free Texas rigs. With a free rig in particular, the “Zubora Rig”—which adjusts the sinker’s range of movement using a sinker stopper—takes advantage of the force pulling against the sinker to produce a wobbling fall. It is designed for use with 1/0–2/0 offset hooks. When using a 2/0 hook, rig it with the line eye exposed. Embed the hook point into the raised portion on the back to rig it straight without distorting the body.
