Reply Plug

REPLY plugs are a topwater plug series designed to let anglers try different surface presentations by combining the operating sounds and water displacement of props and blades with changes in body shape. Each model differs in prop position and number, as well as body construction, and the lineup includes not only single-body swishers but also models with jointed bodies and wings.

Models equipped with original props featuring hexagonal openings produce distinctive contact sounds and splashes as the props rotate, making them suitable for retrieves that keep the props spinning during a steady retrieve. During walking-the-dog actions, the body’s rocking motion combines with the prop movement, and some models can attract fish across the surface while limiting forward travel. The jointed Boboon-style models, whose rear prop rotates underwater, generate a rearward spinning action in addition to the movement of the jointed body. Winged models such as the Juno Moss position the wings toward the rear to adjust the floating posture and rise-up action, and are designed to produce ripples from the start of an ultra-slow retrieve.

Use a steady retrieve as the basic presentation, varying it with walking-the-dog actions, short jerks, and pauses. The feel of the retrieve changes depending on whether you emphasize the prop sound and blade contact noise or the body’s rocking motion and wing action, so adjust the retrieve speed and rod work to suit each model’s construction. Use each model’s standard hook setup as a guide, and check that the hooks do not interfere with the joint or rotating components.
