RYUGI’s WEIGHTED PIERCE is a worm hook designed with weight added to a Pierce Hook, taking into consideration both the worm’s swimming balance and its ability to slip through structure. With shad tails and stickbaits, it makes it easier to achieve a natural swimming action, while with twin-tail grubs and similar baits, it can also be rigged for buzzing across the surface. The weight’s position, shape, and size have been carefully adjusted to stabilize the worm’s action and support control at the desired depth.
The hook section incorporates the design inherited from the Pierce Hook, with consideration given to resistance to bending by utilizing the spring-back properties of the hook wire. This design combines smooth passage through weeds and other cover with reliable hook-setting performance when a fish bites. The current model has been renewed with a TC coating and is available as the HWP042 in 3/0, 4/0, 5/0, and 5/0+ sizes. Weights are set at 1/32 oz (0.9 g), 3/64 oz (1.3 g), and 1/16 oz (1.8 g), allowing selection according to the size of the worm being used and the desired swimming depth.
