NISHINE LURE WORKS’ Otonabee 48 is a sinking minnow designed to achieve an exceptionally high-pitch swimming action for a minnow plug, powered by two sources of movement: the front lip and the TDS (Tail Drive System) in the tail section. Despite its compact 48 mm, 4.4 g body, it features water-catching surfaces at both the front and rear. The action generated by the front lip is accelerated by the TDS in the tail section. It swims with an ultra-high-pitch action resembling a lipless crankbait and handles a wide range of retrieve speeds, from slow to high-speed. In addition to a standard steady retrieve, when the TDS catches water in response to inputs such as twitches, it produces a high-speed rolling action accompanied by intense flashing, known as the “Drill Roll Action.”

The Drill Roll’s defining feature is its ability to generate a powerful rolling action while minimizing the lure’s forward movement. Once you become accustomed to controlling it, the action can also be produced with a shaking retrieve similar to mid-strolling, but slightly more forceful. The standard setup uses a single treble hook on the tail, a combination that makes it easier to produce the Drill Roll. Depending on conditions, it can also be rigged with two treble hooks by adding one to the belly, or changed to one or two single hooks. The sinking rate is 30 cm per second. Ichikawa Kamakiri Light #12 standard hooks and a #00+ snap are included.
