Heddon’s Super Zara Spook is a large pencil bait designed around a quiet approach without rattles. The XS9255 measures 11.4 cm in length and weighs 18.17 g. It has no internal rattle chamber or movable weights; instead, a fixed lead weight in the tail provides casting mass. This configuration makes it easy to cast long distances while keeping noise to a minimum, making it suitable for clear water and highly pressured conditions.
To work the lure, keep the rod tip low and twitch the rod with some slack left in the line to produce a side-to-side walk-the-dog action. The stable pivot created by the fixed weight supports the body’s side-to-side turning motion. The lure is equipped with #2 black nickel treble hooks, with a feathered hook on the rear. Because the feather continues to move underwater during pauses, simply stopping the lure can be incorporated more easily into the retrieve. A split ring is fitted at the front, allowing the body to swing from side to side in response to line input. If a strike is missed, rather than moving the lure immediately, pause once and then work it with short walks in place.
