Berkeley Dex Popper

Berkley’s DEX Popper (DEX PP66) is a topwater plug that delivers the pops and splashes expected of a popper at a high level, while adding a lifelike presence at rest with its marabou hook. It features a semi-wide mouth designed to send water forcefully forward and produce a deep popping sound. The body sits at approximately a 61-degree angle on the water’s surface, allowing strong rod work to create a popping action and subtle manipulation to produce a walking action. A key feature is its ability to vary the intensity of the action with a single style of rod work, creating the sounds and splashes of fleeing baitfish.

The marabou hook mounted at the front functions as a natural material that attracts fish with its “undulation” and “spread” when the lure is paused after a pop. The front-mounted configuration helps limit the lure’s travel distance, making it suitable for working a confined area. The marabou hook can also be moved to the rear, producing an irregular action reminiscent of a jointed lure and a wider walking action. Soaking the marabou hook thoroughly in water before use is recommended. It is also designed with fluorocarbon line use in mind, with 12 lb recommended by the manufacturer. The PP66 measures 66 mm in length and weighs 9.4 g.
