Deps Wakasagi Bait

Deps’ WAKASAGI BAIT is a lipless minnow that mimics the frantic escape of baitfish such as smelt from predators with an I-shaped action and erratic darts. Despite its small, slender profile, the square body maintains sufficient volume, contributing to sharp movement generated by its high buoyancy, as well as long-casting performance and castability. The low-resistance body, which minimizes scale patterns and surface irregularities, combined with the forward-leaning nose shape, produces a wide-skating panic action that responds to rod manipulation. The tinsel tail at the rear of the body functions as a stabilizer, suppressing unnatural swaying caused by water and wind, while adding presence through its shimmering, flashing reflections.

The floating model displays a stable I-shaped action near the surface and is suitable for steady retrieves and dead-sticking. Intermittent shaking creates surface ripples, effectively imitating fleeing baitfish. The sinking model is easy to work below the surface and is suited to situations when baitfish have difficulty rising to the top layer due to water temperature or wind. It sinks in a nose-down posture and can also be darted with rod manipulation or dead-sticked on the bottom. Available in 65 mm and 55 mm sizes, both models feature #10 hooks and #2 swivel-equipped split rings. PE 0.6 with a 5 lb fluorocarbon leader or 4 lb nylon is recommended for the floating model, while 5 lb fluorocarbon is recommended for the sinking model. Care is required when using a snap, as it may interfere with the lure’s action.
